that pretty much escalated from “oh cute Microsoft wants to buy GitHub” to OH MY GOD MICROSOFT BOUGHT GITHUB in a day

Sad to see all these cheap negative quips about Github & Microsoft. MS has been doing some awesome work in Open Source recently (just look at VS Code), and hired some excellent people. I see no reason to be worried.

If you’re still optimistic about the Microsoft-GitHub acquisition, consider this:
They didn’t ask your opinion not even a single bit, even though it was primarily your commits, stars, and repositories which made GH become a valuable platform.

This is nice, but migrating to GitLab doesn’t fundamentally solve the problem. It’s not about GitHub being evil and GitLab being good.
It’s about the centralized model and how it always ends up like this. https://t.co/0S080okVEi

I got an email from one my client who is @Github private repo business customer. They want to move out of Github to a personal GIT server hosted either in AWS or Google Cloud. They fear that Microsoft might get insight into their codebase. Small startups/business do not trust MS.

I think it’s time I publicly shared about how Microsoft stole my code and then spit on it.
I’d been waiting for them to do something about it, but that is clearly never happening. https://t.co/yCui1neBZz

We’re seeing 10x the normal daily amount of repositories #movingtogitlab https://t.co/7AWH7BmMvM We’re scaling our fleet to try to stay up. Follow the progress on https://t.co/hN0ce379SC and @movingtogitlab
